A Mission to the Moon
April of 2026, four American astronauts, Commander Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Knoch, and Jeremy Hansen, made history by traveling farther into space than any human before them.
One of the biggest moments for viewers back on Earth was when it came time to name two moon craters.
In 2020 commander Reid Wiseman lost his wife, Carroll Wiseman, to a battle with cancer. This left him as a single father to two young girls Ellie and Katie Wiseman. The crew members and their families became close during these years of preparation, so losing Carroll Wiseman hit everyone hard.
The crew decided to name the two craters in honor of their history-making mission. The first crater was named Integrity, after their capsule. The second crater was named something more personal to the crew.
During a NASA livestream, Commander Wiseman wept as he suggested they name this crater “Carroll” after his late wife. In this moment the astronauts embraced one another as tears were flowing.
Hansen said that this “really neat” location of the crater made it possible to see it from Earth at certain periods of time.
The goal of this mission was to achieve record-breaking strides. This was recorded both through the vast achievements of the Integrity’s crew and the sentimental moment naming the moon craters.
