Holesome Donut Company of Wilmington, Delaware will build a $3 million doughnut factory located in Repton, Alabama, providing 700 jobs to locals. The construction of the doughnut factory will begin March 31 and will end on Nov. 15. The factory will be operational by early next year.
Repton has an unemployment rate of 14%, and the town’s main industry, a shoe factory, will be reducing its payroll by half early next year. The new plant will be expected to counteract these job losses and improve the local economy.
Repton city officials have been in the process of bargaining for this new plant for two years. Multiple other towns across Tennessee, Georgia, and Mississippi also wanted to be home for this new plant. Repton was the final decision due to its location, low interest rates offered by local banks for development, and recreational areas near the plant’s location.
The company president Joe Underwood is an Alabama native and once owned a grocery store within Repton. Underwood said, “the future of America, like its past, lies in small towns like this. We want to be an integral part of this community and make it just as prosperous as it should be.”
The Holesome Donut Company of Wilmington, Delaware, is a bakery chain that specializes in producing fresh-made doughnuts, and creating production plants rooted in local communities.
